On Easter Monday, we went for a recreational dive at the old Babina Quarry. Visibility at this time of year is usually at its best. At the beginning, my buddy found a lost dive compass. We dropped down to 10 meters, gave each other a high-five, and kept going. We almost circled the entire reservoir. My friend signaled that his air reserve was running low, so we surfaced at a nearby safety stop. Then I noticed a black bag wrapped in string. I swam over, grabbed it, and started dragging it to the surface. It was quite heavy! My first thought was that it might be a body, as I had found such things in the past. Once we were out of the water and opened it up, we discovered a bag full of shell casings of various calibers. In the next bag, there were also military buttons, some with the Polish eagle without a crown (from the period of the Polish People’s Republic, 1944–1989). Who might have dumped it? Could it have been a soldier’s lost belongings, or perhaps someone’s attempt to get rid of items that could reveal their identity?
